Elaine Herrig, age 89, of Albert City, Iowa died February 15, 2017 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 20, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Sunday, February 19, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City was in charge of the arrangements. 

Elaine Neomi Harald was born March 22, 1927, two miles north of Albert City, to Ivar and Neomi (Elg) Harald.

In her youth, she was confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City.

Elaine attended school in Albert City, graduating high school in 1945. After graduation, she began working as a dental assistant in Storm Lake.

On January 1, 1946, Elaine was united in marriage to Donald Carl Herrig in Lawton, Oklahoma. Together, they were blessed with four sons: Terry, Craig, Scott, and Mark.

Elaine, for many years, was a housewife, raising her family. She also picked eggs at their chicken house on the north edge of Albert City. For 12 years, Elaine worked in the dietary department at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.

Elaine belonged to the Golden Rule Club for thirty years, HOA (Help One Another) for ten years, and WELCA of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She stayed active in the community as a Sunday school teacher, and volunteered at Pleasant View Home, helping with Bingo and serving coffee.

Elaine loved being a housewife, mother, and grandmother. She also enjoyed camping, sitting by a camp fire, quilting, dancing, walking, riding bike, and traveling.

In 2016, Elaine and Donald celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Donald of Albert City, Iowa; sons: Terry (Cindy) Herrig of Albert City, Iowa; Scott Herrig of Albert City, Iowa; Mark (Terry) Herrig of Albert City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kathy Herrig of Sun Lakes, Arizona; grandchildren: Kelly Herrig of Emmetsburg, Iowa; Jenny (Stacy) Benna of Pocahontas, Iowa; Jessica (Terry) Hoffman of Coon Rapids, Iowa; Austin (Kriste) Herrig of Alta, Iowa; Kyle (Kim) Herrig of Chandler, Arizona; Karna (Thomas) Tate of Scottsdale, Arizona; Heather (Peter) Wiebe of Newell, Iowa; Kelsey (Peter) Martens of Albert City, Iowa; Kolesa Herrig (Christopher) of Marathon, Iowa; great grandchildren: Skyler, Spencer, Sydnie, Mason, Jacey, Trevor, Jayna, Mckenzie, Gracen, Jackson, Alaina, Malia, Kai, Pre, Madison, Alexis, and Autumn; sisters-in-law, Hazel Marrietta of Storm Lake, Iowa; Laura Herrig of Bonne, Iowa; Helen Herrig of Comfrey, Minnesota; Jan Herrig of Mountain Lake, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Lester Anderson of Albert City, Iowa; many extended family members and a host of friends.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents, Ivar and Neomi Harald; son, Craig Herrig; great granddaughter, Aubree Martens; father and mother-in-law, Carl and Bena Herrig; brother, Wendell (Martha) Harald; sister, Inez (Bill) Shold; brothers-in-law: Fred Herrig, Russell Herrig, Harold (Lucille) Herrig, Tony Marietta; sisters-in-law, Martha Harald, Lucille (Floyd) Lorenzen, Irene (Clyde) Moore, and Delores (Lester) Senert.
