David Harold Clausen, age 72, of Albert City, Iowa died Saturday, January 14, 2017 at his home in Albert City surrounded by loving family after a 12 year battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery in rural Albert City. Visitation will take place Tuesday, January 17, 2017 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Kindred Hospice of Carroll; Abben Cancer Center of Spencer; or Hope Lodge of Rochester, Minnesota in David's name. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. 

David Harold Clausen was born May 28, 1944 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Oscar and Lorraine (Boettcher) Clausen.

As an infant, he was baptized and later confirmed.

Growing up, David attended school in Albert City where he graduated from Albert City Truesdale High School in 1962. 

On June 14, 1999, David was united in marriage to Judy Lenderink in Orange City, Iowa. Blended into a family with this union were Melissa, Tracey, Dawn, Joel, Nancy and Kathy.

David was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. He was also an EMT and served on the Albert City Fire Department for many years.

David worked at Clausen’s Sinclair Service Station with his dad, Oscar, in Albert City prior to taking over the family business. He also worked many years for the United States Postal Service.

David loved to ride his mower and was an avid gardener. He enjoyed traveling the United States with his wife, Judy and going on cruises ranked high on his list. Family was very important to David and he especially loved visiting his children and grandchildren. In his spare time, David loved playing cards, Farkel, and especially Rummikub with family. Woodworking and auto mechanics with Joel were a favorite pastime of David’s.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Judy Clausen of Albert City, Iowa; children: Melissa Cerda of Stillwater, Oklahoma; Dawn (Toney) Betsill of McDonough, Georgia; Tracey (Peter) Denney of Clinton, Oklahoma; Joel Clausen (special friend, Megan) of Albert City, Iowa; Nancy (Chris) Brown of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Kathy Parker (special friend, Kenny) of Spirit Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Eric Cerda, Bianca Cerda, Haillee Cerda, Hannah Cerda, Toney Betsill III, Savannah Betsill, J.R. Betsill, Jason Denney, Dustin Denney, Justin Brown, Mercedes Brown; four great grandchildren; brother, Kent (Deb) Clausen of Albert City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Brian (Dyan) Lenderink of Sheldon, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Lynne (John) Hubers of Orange City, Iowa; Mary Beth (Jerry) Reuves of Orange City, Iowa; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Don and Ruth Lenderink of Orange City, Iowa; nieces; nephews; cousins; and a garden of friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar and Lorraine Clausen; brothers: Jim and Tom Clausen; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
