George "Bud" McNabb III, age 74, of Linn Grove, Iowa died Sunday, January 15, 2017 at his home in Linn Grove.

A Funeral Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19, 2017 from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa followed by a Military Graveside Service at 2:30 p.m. by the Cherokee VFW Post 2253 and the Linn Grove American Legion Post 367 at the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

George “Bud” McNabb III, was born December 6, 1942, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to George William McNabb Jr. and Ruth Arlene (Pike) McNabb.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in Cedar Rapids where he met the love of his life, wife, Marian. They have lived in Linn Grove for 29 years.

George is retired United States Navy serving a year at the South Pole, a year on Midway Island, two tours in Vietnam, and is a Plank Owner of Naval Air Station Lemoore California. He served all over the world, specializing in petroleum.

George loved to fish, fossil hunt, and spend time in the great outdoors with his family. He enjoyed winters in warmer climates. He participated in Bald Eagle Day where he released a Bald Eagle back into the wild in 2011.

George is a member of the Loess Hills Gourd Society, Little Sioux Federated Garden Club, and is a life member of the VFW Post 2253 in Cherokee. He’s been active in the Blue Star Marker program in the Buena Vista, Cherokee, and Clay County, where there’s a Blue Star Marker to honor our veterans in every town in the country.

George is survived by his wife, Marian; three daughters: Deanna Avera and her husband, Clark from Liberty, Missouri; Barbara Carroll of Milford, Iowa; and Amanda Jones of Roseville, California; step daughter, Candy Grant and her husband, Jeff from Adair, Iowa; step son, Gene Geiger and his wife, Darla of Spencer, Iowa; three special granddaughters; three great granddaughters; one great grandson, nephew, David McElligott and his family from Johnston, Iowa; cousins, and many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister.
