Robert "Chris" Vierow, age 81, of Albert City, Iowa and formerly  of Marathon, Iowa died Tuesday, October 25, 2016 at Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City. 

Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Marathon. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Friday, October 28, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert “Chris” Vierow was born August 24, 1935, the son of William and Florence (Smith) Vierow.

He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran Faith.

Chris was raised in Ayrshire and the family moved to Laurens while he was still young. Chris attended school in Laurens, and began his agriculture career at a young age.

On April 3, 1954, Chris was united in marriage to Garnet Lane at the Methodist Church in Jackson, Minnesota. Together, the couple was blessed with three children: Brenda, Vickie, and Kelley.

For 60 years, Chris worked for John Deere, starting as a mechanic and then in sales. He worked in various John Deere implements throughout his life such as Art Johnson Implement in Marathon, Quality Equipment in Peterson, and Laurens Equipment. 

Chris served as a member of the Marathon Park Board. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Marathon. 

Fishing, hunting, and playing cards were some of Chris’ favorite pastimes. He also collected John Deere toys. Most of all, Chris loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Garnet Vierow of Albert City, Iowa; children: Brenda (Tim) Hawley of Laurens, Iowa; Vickie (Chuck) Erickson of Marathon, Iowa; Kelley Archer (Mike Dornsbach) of Marathon, Iowa; grandchildren: Kari (Adrian) Christensen, Tracy (Hector) DeLaO, Adrian (Sara) Erickson, Abbey (Brad) Greene, Cody Archer, Tanner Archer; step grandchildren: Alyssa, Jon and Michael Hawley; great grandchildren: Sarah and Sophie Christensen; Arabella DeLaO; Ajay, Mollie, and Brody Erickson; Greyson Archer; step great grandchildren: Reuben, Yesenia, Julianna, Xavier DeLaO; sister, Marjorie (Gary) Kramer of Palmer, Iowa; sister-in-law, Erma Westercamp of Newton, Iowa; aunt, Shirley Smith of Ayrshire, Iowa; several nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. 

Chris was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Joan Vierow; brother, Clifford (Muriel) Vierow; and son-in-law, Tom Archer.
