Harriett H. Mortenson, age 93, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died  Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Hawkeye Care Center in Sioux Rapids. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, October 28, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 27, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Harriett Helen Hotchkiss was born March 15, 1923 in Jackson, Minnesota, the daughter of Herbert and Clara (Boehm) Hotchkiss.

She attended school in Marathon, graduating in 1940. 

Harriett was confirmed at the Episcopal Church in Marathon. 

On March 10, 1944, Harriett was united in marriage to Donald L. Mortenson. Together, the couple was blessed with five children: Judith, Connie, Sherry, Michael, and Dawn.

Harriett was a devoted wife and mother. She stayed home to raise the children and loved attending family related activities and gatherings. Harriett especially enjoyed having morning coffee with her sister.

Harriett’s kind heart and love for life touched many people throughout her 93 years. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Judith Carpenter of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Connie (Charles) Van Ness of Lawrence, Kansas; Michael (Beth) Mortenson of Le Mars, Iowa; Dawn Mortenson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; 15 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 13 great-great grandchildren; extended family and friends.

Harriett was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Donald; infant daughter, Sherry; three brothers: Milton, Hartley, and Byron Hotchkiss; and two sisters: Pauline Mortenson and Naomi Fitsimmons.
