Wesley Huffman

Wesley N. Huffman, age 77, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died October 13, 2021 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 23, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Visitation will be Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 3-5:00 p.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Wesley Newton Huffman was born on August 8, 1944, to Ruth Marie (Eaton) and David Wesley Huffman.  He was born at his Uncle Claude and Aunt Lois O’Claire’s house in Clay County, Iowa.  Wes attended Cornell School until it consolidated with Sioux Rapids in 1959, his sophomore year.  He earned many medals in track, including several at the state track meets.  After graduating in 1962 from Sioux Rapids, he moved to Fort Dodge and worked at Coats Manufacturing for 5 years.  He then worked at the Fort Dodge Labs the following 7 years.  He was a member of the Army National Guard for 6 years.  He met his wife, Dolly, at a dance in Fort Dodge in 1965.  They were married on May 13, 1967 in Humboldt, Iowa.  They lived in Badger, Iowa, and had two children, Kristi and Neil.  His heart was still in farming, so the family moved back to Sioux Rapids where he farmed with his parents.  They purchased their own farm in Linn Grove, Iowa.  In addition to farming, Wes worked for Ranco Fertiservice for more than 30 years before retiring in August of 2010.  

Those left who loved him are his wife of 54 years, Dolly (Iona Maurine Nostrom) Huffman; his daughter Kristi and her husband Jarrod Wickre and grandchildren Jordan (wife Ann) Wickre and Kendra Wickre; his son Neil Huffman and grandson, Kavian Huffman; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Ruth, and two brothers, Darwin and Louis, in addition to other family on Dolly’s side.
