Wanda Gail Grote

Wanda Gail Grote of Prior Lake, Minnesota passed away peacefully Thursday, July 3, 2025 at McKenna Crossing Homes. 

Celebration of Life services will take place Monday, July 21, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Spencer, Iowa followed by a luncheon. The Sliefert Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Wanda the ninth child of Ivy and William Henley was born May 18th 1936. She grew up in the Sioux Rapids area and attended Cornell High School. On January 28th, 1953 she was united in marriage to Gary Grote in Jackson, Minnesota. They were blessed with five children; Rebecca, Scott, Michelle, David and Deanna.

Wanda wore many hats throughout her life. She was a farm wife, mother, and a homemaker. She was known to make the best cinnamon rolls according to her grandchildren. There were many times she would be teaching them to cook and make homemade bread. 

Wanda was also always known for her immaculate gardens and flower gardens, especially around her gazebo and her koi pond.

Later in life Wanda worked at the Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Saint Luke's Lutheran Homes in Spencer, and retired from the Spencer Municipal Hospital as a dietary aide. She was known for her perfume; Estee Lauder Youth Dew that she wore up until the end.

For the last six years, Wanda relocated to McKenna Crossing Homes in Minnesota. She lived very close to David and Katie, who gave her unconditional love and care. For that our families will be forever grateful.

Those who will cherish her memory include her children; Rebecca (William) Burke of Waukee, Iowa, Michelle (Don) Morgan of Chillicothe, Ohio, David (Katie) Grote of Prior Lake, Minnesota, and Deanna (Mike) Erdkamp of LaVista, Nebraska; 10 grandchildren, and several great grandchildren.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gary, her son Scott, and her siblings.
