Vivian Mae Blomberg Wilbur was born May 1, 1923, in Henriette, Minnesota. She is the last survivor of 11 children. The family moved back to Iowa when she was 6 years old. They moved into the house which stood where the nursing home stands now. She graduated in 1941 and worked in a restaurant for a short time. In 1942, she started working at Superior Manufacturing. The Sundholm farm west of town had been converted into a shop to make ammunition parts for the government, and she did inspection and packaging. “There were government inspectors there, but we thought they played more cards than inspecting,” she said!

She married Alva (Willie to most of us) on February 13, 1945 and lived in Laurens. She rode a bus that Mr. Sundholm had that picked people up from Laurens, Marathon, and some farms. They moved to Albert City soon after. She took a “leave of absence” in late 1945 to raise 6 children. When Margo started kindergarten, she went back to the factory and followed it to Spencer, Iowa when it moved there. She retired in 1988, after spending 20 years traveling to Spencer. She worked a total of 30 years at Superior Manufacturing. In retirement, she kept busy making Christmas stockings, sweaters, and baby booties on her knitting machine. She also made Afghans for the grandkids, casserole carriers, hot pads, and of course her famous scrubbies- of which she made more than 25,000!!! She was involved in Abigale group at church and was secretary for many years for the Senior Group Young at Heart. She and Willie were long time members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. She moved to the nursing home in August 2019 after living in her house on Main Street for almost 67 years.

She is preceded in death by her husband “Willie”, son-in-law John Forbes, daughter-in-law Cheryl Wilbur, parents, all her brothers and sisters.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Mike, Terry, Dennis, Tom, Peg, and Margo, and their spouses. Also many grand, great-grand, and great great-grandchildren and sisters-in-laws Eileen Davis and Pat Cejak, and many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed by many more.
