Troy W. Hermstad, age 82, of Webb, Iowa died November 7, 2015 at Spencer Hospital in Spencer, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 12, 2015 at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Wednesday, November 11, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Troy Wendell Hermstad was born July 20, 1933 in Cornell, Iowa the son of Harold and Tillie (Sorenson) Hermstad. Growing up, he was baptized and later confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids where he remained a lifelong member.

He attended school in Cornell where he graduated with the class of 1951.

On February 27, 1953 Troy was united in marriage to Janet Olson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with two sons, Troy Jr. and Jay.

In 1953, Troy was drafted into the United States Army where he proudly served his country until he was honorably discharged in 1955.

Following his discharge, he returned to the Cornell area where he raised his family and started farming. Troy had a passion for the farm and took great pride in having straight rows. Troy was a member of the Sioux Rapids American Legion in Sioux Rapids.

In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing, golfing and playing horseshoes. Troy also enjoyed bowling, playing pool, ping pong, and cards, especially pinochle. Troy loved socializing with friends and playing practical jokes. He will be remembered for having a bright smile, a hardy laugh, and a good sense of humor. Family was very important to Troy and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 62 years, Janet Hermstad of Webb, Iowa; son, Troy Jr. (Pat) Hermstad of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Carol Hermstad of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren: Jessica (Jeff) Larson of Sioux Center, Iowa; Greg Hermstad of Webb, Iowa; David Hermstad of Webb, Iowa; great grandson, William Larson; sister-in-law, Colleen Hermstad of Spencer, Iowa; nephews; nieces; cousins; extended family and friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jay Hermstad; brother, Milo Hermstad; nephew, Bruce Hermstad; and niece, Denise Hermstad.
