Troy Clapp, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa died July 4, 2014 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Linn Grove. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place Monday, July 7, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Troy Richard Clapp, the son of Arthur and Ella (Claney) Clapp was born January 16, 1928 in Spencer, Iowa. He lived his youth on the family farm north of Linn Grove. He attended Cornell school, graduating from High School in 1945.

On June 6, 1948, Troy was united in marriage to Betty Samuelson in Linn Grove. Together, they farmed north of Linn Grove. In 1985, he was honored Egg Producer of the Year by the Iowa Poultry Association.

In 2011, they moved to Storm Lake to make their home.

Troy was an active member of his church, community, school board and elevator board. He was a leader in the Fellowship of Christian Farmers. He enjoyed going to Mexico with the Fellowship of Christian Farmers for three years to build churches.

After his retirement from farming, he began the “Old Farmer’s Workshop” where he enjoyed building, restoring, and refinishing furniture. He worked at Faith, Hope and Charity in Storm Lake along with volunteering at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

He was a man of great faith and prayer.

He leaves behind his wife of 66 years, Betty Clapp of Storm Lake, Iowa; his children: Paula (Lowell) Bartels of Beresford, South Dakota; Paul Clapp of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; five grandchildren: Brent (Emily) Bartels of Beresford, South Dakota; Janey (Erik) Case of Dell Rapids, South Dakota; Kristen (Geoff) Clark of Orlando, Florida; Mark Clapp of Marathon, Iowa; Michele (Colin) Hogrefe of Linn Grove, Iowa; three great grandsons: Landen Bartels; Carson and Conner Case; brothers-in-law, Lawrence Rusk and Robert Samuelson; many nieces, nephews; cousins; extended family and many friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ella Clapp; one sister, Dorothy Rusk; one brother, Dwight Clapp and three infant brothers.
