Shirley Simon Obituary

Shirley Ann (Robeson) Simon, 91, of Urbandale, Iowa, formerly Sioux Rapids, Iowa passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025.

Services will be held in the Spring of 2026. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Born on July 29, 1934 in Edison, Nebraska to Frank and Elsie (Warner) Robeson. Shirley loved spending time with family and friends, traveling, playing cards, coffee and conversation. She also loved spending time in Arizona every year. Shirley had a huge heart and always a smile on her face. Heaven has gained a true angel.

Shirley attended country school for one year and then moved with her family to Washta, Iowa when she was five years old. She attended school in Washta until she was a freshman in High School, when she moved to Aurelia, Iowa. She attended Aurelia School graduating with the class of 1952. After graduation, Shirley worked at First Trust and Savings Bank in Aurelia.

On April 30, 1955, she was united in marriage to George Simon at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Michael, Steven, Nancy, Patrick, and Brian Mark who died in infancy.

George and Shirley farmed in the Aurelia, Linn Grove, and Sioux Rapids area. Shirley also worked at Linn Grove Hatchery and Cokes Poultry of Sioux Rapids. She loved the farm life.

Shirley is survived by her children: Michael, Steven (Karla), Nancy, and Patrick (Mary); grandchildren: Tyler, Ryan (Olivia), Logan, Alex (Kayla) and Harrison. She was also survived by her two great grandchildren, Stella and Joey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Simon and son, Brian Mark. Also her parents, Frank and Elsie (Warner) Robeson and stepmother, Myrt Hicks, along with many other wonderful friends and family.
