Rosa Sundberg, age 98, of Linn Grove, Iowa died Monday, July 17, 2006 at Sioux Care Center in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa with Pastor Duane Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, 2006 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, where the family will be present.

Rosa Pauline Christensen was born September 27, 1907 in Sioux City, Iowa to Chris Christensen and Alma (Pedersen) Christensen. She was baptized on October 27, 1907. She entered grade school in Lawton, Iowa before moving with her family to the Newell, Iowa area. Rosa received her instruction in the Lutheran religion in Newell and was confirmed in Nain Lutheran Church. She graduated from Newell High School in 1926. Rosa continued her education at Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, Iowa, where she earned her two-year teaching degree.

On May 30, 1937, Rosa was married to Ernest Sundberg at her parents’ home in Newell. Rosa and Ernest were blessed with five children: Richard, Ronald, Roland, Sandra and Dale.

Rosa was a loving wife and devoted mother whose family was always her first priority. A talented seamstress, Rosa sewed several wedding dresses and had a marvelous skill for piecing beautiful quilts, which she gave to her family and her church to share with others. She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, where she held every office in the women’s group. She was a 4-H Club leader at the local and county levels, and a member of the American Legion Auxilliary. In her later years, Rosa’s grandchildren brought her great joy. Her kind and loving presence will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Richard Sundberg of Charlottesville, Virginia; son Ronald (Shirley) Sundberg of Linn Grove; daughter Sandra (Bud) Bergman of Waverly, Iowa; son Dale (Pam) Sundberg of San Jose, California; nine grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ernest; her infant son, Roland; her daughter-in-law, Richard’s wife, Lorna Sundberg; her sister and husband, Esther and Roland Rohwedder; and her brother and his wife, Henry and Dorothy Christensen.
