Roger Johnson Obituary

Roger J. Johnson, age 68, of Albert City, Iowa died December 2, 2022 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City. 

Memorial services will be held Saturday, December 10, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of arrangements. 

Roger Jay Johnson was born on August 21, 1954 in Storm Lake, Iowa. His parents were Darwin and Dolores (Hansen) Johnson of Albert City, Iowa. He was welcomed home by his older brothers: Bruce & Lynn Johnson. Roger was excited to have a sister, Susan, join the family five years later. 

The family lived on a farm three miles west and ½ mile north from Albert City. Roger lived most of his life in Albert City. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Saviors Lutheran Church. He remained a lifelong member. 

Roger graduated from Albert City – Truesdale School in 1973. He then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg and received a degree in Farm Management. He returned to Albert City to help work the family farm and was also hired to help local farmers. 

Roger worked various off the farm jobs throughout his life as well. Roger trucked for area farmers. He truly loved trucking and shared this passion with his great nephew, Brandon. Roger also enjoyed working on “wheat runs” traveling throughout the western states. 

Roger loved his family and really enjoyed spending time with them. His hobbies included golf, which he was a member of several country clubs and golf leagues throughout the years. Fishing, which he traveled many times with his parents and other family members and friends to spend time on the water in Minnesota. Roger loved to talk on the phone, he spent many hours connecting with family and always wanted to know how they were doing. He could start up a conversation with anyone, anywhere. He was respected and liked by all who encountered him. 

Roger is preceded in death by his parents, Darwin and Dolores, and his brother, Bruce Johnson. 

Left to cherish his memory is his brother: Lynn (Kim) Johnson; sister: Susan (Chris) Keyt; sister-in-law: Karen Johnson; brother: Roland Stuermer; nieces: Becky Johnson; Beth (Gregg) Mealiff; Jessica Johnson; Karla (Rian) Mangrich; Alison (Brad) Carlsen; Megan (Brandon Mesenbrink) Keyt; Abby (Jose) Chavez; great nieces and nephews: Crystal & Brandon Johnson; Nolan, Brenna & Ian Mealiff; Hailey & Taylor Wilson; Caleb Mangrich; Logan & Hazel Carlsen; Ethan Clark & Molly Mesenbrink; Mateo Chavez; Aron Stuermer; Antonia Enders; Chiara & Mia Enders; as well as many other family and friends.
