Ray B. Marshall, age 79, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sioux Rapids Baptist Church in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Ray Brooks Marshall, the son of Charles E. “Brooks” and Pearl (Baird) Marshall was born in Heidenheimer, Texas, on June 25, 1936. He lived his youth in Bell County, Texas and graduated from the Academy High School ins Academy, Texas. He continued his education at Howard Payne Baptist College in Brownwood, Texas where he received his bachelor’s degree.

On December 23, 1961, Ray was united in marriage to Carrol Earnest in Conway, Arkansas and this marriage was blessed with two sons, James and Russell. Immediately following his marriage, he lived in Early, Texas, where he pastored the Streeter Baptist Church. Ray moved to the Dallas, Texas, area where he was employed as an insurance adjuster. In 1970, he relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where he made his home, but he also worked as a cook on the off shore oil drilling rigs off the coast of Louisiana. It was while Ray was residing in Corpus Christi that he married Josie Cheaters. Ray came to Sioux Rapids, Iowa, in 1997, and was the main chef for Marshall’s Kitchen which he helped operate from 1997 to 2001.

Ray was a member of the Sioux Rapids Baptist Church, and throughout his lifetime he had served as a Sunday school teacher and was an ordained deacon. In his spare time, Ray enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, watching his sports teams on television, fishing, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. He will be remembered as a talented chef who enjoyed participating in “Chili Cook Off” competitions.

Ray’s life will be remembered by his family which include his wife, Josie of Hollywood, Florida; his two sons: James (Connie) Marshall of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Russell (Michelle) Marshall of Sheldon, Iowa; step children: Freman Cheaters and Jasmine Cabello, both of Corpus Christi, Texas; granddaughter, Jennifer Marshall of Council Bluffs, Iowa; sister, June Dawson of Houston, Texas; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings: John, Jean, Robert, Betty, Sue, and Jimmy.
