Patricia Kay Hermstad

Patricia Kay Hermstad, age 71, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa passed away with family by her side on Wednesday, November 15, 2023 in her home after seven years of courageous battle with Corticobasal Degeneration Disease.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, November 18, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. 

Patricia “Pat” was born December 18, 1951 to Robert and Eleanor (Woodford) Essick in Laurens, Iowa. In 1956, the family moved to a farm outside of Webb, Iowa. She attended school at South Clay in Webb, Iowa, graduating in 1970. Following high school, she went on to graduate from Iowa State University in 1974 with a degree in Child Development. Pat was employed by Eaton Corporation for over 31 years, retiring in 2014. She was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa where she later served on the quilting group.

Patricia was united in marriage to Troy Hermstad Jr. on October 15, 1977 in Sioux Rapids. They felt incredibly blessed when they adopted their daughter, Jessica.

Throughout her life, Pat enjoyed bowling, gardening, reading books, listening to Oldies, and watching television. Pat was an avid sports fan and enjoyed Twins baseball, Hawkeye football and basketball, and Kansas City Chiefs football. She also enjoyed spending time and getting together with family and friends. The Clay County Fair was something that she looked forward to attending every year as well. Pat also enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Will and Kayleigh. They were the light of her life.  

Pat is survived by her beloved husband, Troy Hermstad Jr. of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; daughter: Jessica (Jeff) Larson of Omaha, Nebraska; sisters: Peggy Christian of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Donna (Darwyn) Dickmann of Hull, Iowa; grandchildren: Will and Kayleigh Larson; mother-in-law: Janet Hermstad of Webb, Iowa; sister-in-law: Carol Hermstad; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Robert and Eleanor Essick; father-in-law: Troy Hermstad Sr.; two brothers-in-law: Tom Christian and Jay Hermstad.
