Norma Loving Obituary

Norma Loving, age 97, of Albert City, Iowa died on Saturday, December 12, 2020 at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City.

Private family services will be held on Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Albert City. A recording of the service will be uploaded at a later time. Burial will take place in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorials be given to a charity of the donor’s choice. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Norma was one of six children born October 1, 1923 to Emmanuel and Agnes (Larson) Peterson. She grew up on the homeplace south of Albert City. She attended school in Albert City and graduated in 1941. After graduation she worked as a telephone operator at the local phone office. She then attended Buena Vista College for 2 years and received a degree in Elementary Education in 1945. She taught 3rd and 4th grades at Ware, IA.

Norma dated Jerome Loving before he was enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1942. After Jerome was discharged in 1945, Norma and Jerome were married June 20, 1947. They made their home on the Loving farm west of town. They raised 3 children, Robert, Suzanne, and Barbara. Norma was a devoted wife, mother, and helped work on the farm. Jerome and Norma were members of the Threshermen’s show and worked many years at it. They also enjoyed traveling on trips with groups and friends to various states. In 1985 Jerome and Norma moved to a house in town. Jerome died in 2001 after 54 years of marriage.

Norma loved her church and was a member of the Evangelical Covenant Church. She sang in the choir, taught Sunday School, served as Deaconess, and Covenant Women Chairman. Norma worked as dietary assistant at the Pleasant View Nursing Home for 25 years. Her hobbies and past time were spent doing gardening, embroidery, and tying quilts for all the grandkids. 

Norma was proud of her family and Swedish heritage and loved sharing her hospitality with family and friends. She will be remembered for her Christian faithfulness, devotion to family, and strong character to community.

She is survived by her children: Robert Loving and Mavis of Albert City; Suzanne and Michael Brenden of Whiting; Barbara and David West of Clive. Her grandchildren include Kari Loving, Karmen (Joshua) Stewart, Laurie (Derek) Andrews, Jason Brenden, Christy Brenden, Zachary (Marissa) West, Nathan (Morgan) West, and Jacob (Katelyn) West. 5 great-grandchildren include Kayla Brenden, Justin Goodvin,  Wylde West, Emmerson Stewart, and Naomi Andrews. Norma is also survived by her three brothers, Maurice, Glenn, and Kenneth Peterson, as well as her sister, Eunice Montgomery. 

Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; parents, Emmanuel and Agnes Peterson; brother, Myrle Peterson; granddaughter, Sarah Brenden; and a step-grandson, Tracy Brenden.
