Mildred Imrie, age 78, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa passed away Thursday, July 13, 2006 at McKennon Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 17, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, with Reverend Tonna Parsons officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 16, 2006 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, where the family will be present.

Mildred Pearl Johnson was born August 1, 1927 near Marathon, Iowa to Edmund and Opal (Sorenson) Johnson. She attended Marathon School until 1936, when as a third-grade student, the family moved to a farm near Sioux Rapids. Mildred has perfect attendance for the next nine years in the Sioux Rapids School. She graduated in 1946 from Sioux Rapids High School.

Mildred attended Sunday School and Luther League at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids. She was confirmed on June 7, 1942 by Reverend K. G. Hatlen and remained a faithful member of the First Lutheran Congregation until her death.

Mildred worked in the Sioux Rapids Post Office until she moved to Michigan. There she met and married Maxwell Imrie on November 23, 1953 in Detroit. After a few years they moved back to Iowa, where they lived for a short time at Webb and then in Sioux Rapids. Mildred lived at Sioux Rapids for the rest of her life. Max was employed by Kline Electric in Storm Lake for many years. He was also a disabled veteran, and in his later years Mildred lovingly cared for him until his death on March 3, 1995.

Mildred enjoyed playing cards and working jigsaw puzzles. She liked to crochet, and enjoyed driving her car. Her favorite hobby was playing Bingo. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family.

Mildred was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell; her parents—Edmund in 1954 and Opal in 1995; one brother, Irving Dean Johnson, who was killed in Korea on September 3, 1950; and brothers-in-law Donald Flint and Ed Hanson.

She is survived by three sisters and one brother: Irene Halverson of Sioux Rapids, Inez Flint of Delta, Colorado, Everett Johnson and his wife Lois of Sioux Rapids; and Ardyce Hanson of Marathon; 12 nieces and nephews: Sandra, Judy, Joan, Deanna, Dixie, Randy, Linda, Paul, Carol, Ellen, Kevin and Connie; 10 great-nieces and great-nephews: Shari, Kyle, Julie, Carla, Jason, Kevin, Brian, Blake, Mariah and Parker; a great-great-niece Garrett and great-great-nephew Carson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
