Merlyn "Skip" Anderson, age 77, of Marathon, Iowa died Friday, November 27, 2020 at the Cherokee Specialty Care in Cherokee, Iowa.
Graveside services will take place Wednesday, December 2, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Masks will be required and social distancing will be encouraged. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Merlyn James Anderson was born August 24, 1943 in Spencer, Iowa the son of Vernal and Florence (Sundblad) Anderson.
Growing up, he attended school in Marathon where he graduated in 1961.
Skip was the proud father of three daughters: Wendy, Gina and Kara.
Skip genuinely enjoyed life, especially the simple things. Antique tractors and restoring old cars like his 1969 Chevy Impala were favorites of Skips. He also enjoyed a cold beer at Ike’s Job Site in Marathon. When Skip was not outside working on the farm, you could find him watching the Seahawks play football. Family was particularly important to Skip and he treasured the time he was able to spend with them. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to cherish his memory include his daughters: Wendy (Sunny) Fenton of Bondurant, Iowa; Gina Young of San Antonio, Texas; Kara (Mark) Cover of Elkhorn, Nebraska; grandchildren: Mercedes Isaacson-Cover; Zach Fenton; Jess Fenton; Landrey Young; Ethan Young; Elijah Cover; and Kyrie Cover; brother, Gordon (Diane) Anderson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; extended family and many friends.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Vernal and Florence Anderson; and brother, Gerald “Jerry” Anderson.
