Mavis Foster, age 91, of Albert City, Iowa died Sunday, June 6, 2021 at Pleasant View Home in Albert City.
Funeral service will take place Thursday, June 10, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will take place at a later date in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Wednesday, June 9, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be given to Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Mavis Peterson was born March 17, 1930 in a farmhouse northeast of Albert City, Iowa, the daughter of Waldemar and Esther (Gustafson) Peterson.
Mavis was baptized, confirmed and remained a lifelong member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in Albert City.
Growing up, she attended school in Albert City and graduated from Albert City High School in 1948.
On February 16, 1950, Mavis was united in marriage to Lynn Foster. Together, they were blessed with five children: Jeff, Jim, Randy, Tammy and Tracey.
Mavis always wanted to be a secretary and she fulfilled her wish; she was employed at several businesses before she finished her working career for 20 years at Stern, Diehl, Cornish and Jensen in Albert City, Iowa.
Mavis enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and participating in music events at the church. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Jeff Foster of Orlando, Florida; Jim (Nasrin) Foster of Swanton, Vermont; Randy (Diana) Foster of Overland Park, Kansas; Tammy (Ketty) Spiers of Seneca, Missouri; Tracey (William) Pickering of Parkville, Missouri; grandchildren: Rob and Daniel Foster, Weston and Julia Pickering; great grandchildren, Maverick and Lincoln Foster; extended family and friends.
Mavis was preceded in death by her husband, Lynn; parents, Waldemar and Esther Peterson; sister, Arlene Wessman; brother-in-law, Richard Wessman and niece, Anita Ackerman.
