On December 31, 1963, Harold and Marlene (Nissen) Fassler were blessed with a son, Matthew Carl Fassler. Matthew was baptized into the Lutheran faith as an infant. He later became Catholic and was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer, Iowa.
Matthew grew up in the Linn Grove/Peterson area and attended school at Sioux Valley High School, graduating in 1982. After graduation, he studied Diesel Mechanics at Western Iowa Tech Community College in Sioux City. Most recently Matt worked for Buena Vista Secondary Roads.
Matthew was united in marriage to Jean Nieland on September 17, 1988 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. They were blessed with two sons: Ryan and Brandon.
Matthew was a jack of all trades and had many construction and mechanical skills. These came in handy while he was working for Buena Vista County maintaining roads. Matthew was a big Vikings fan and loved to ride his Harleys on warm days. International tractors were Matthew’s favorite and he enjoyed train watching with his kids and grandkids. More than anything, Matthew treasured time with his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
