Mary Rettig, age 77, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died Friday, July 28, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral service will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Church of Sioux Rapids, with Reverend Tom Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Lone Tree Cemetery at Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, where the family will be present.

Mary Olive Utterback was born February 22, 1929 in Lubbock, Texas to Edward and Ruth (Butler) Utterback. She moved with her family to the Sioux Rapids, Iowa area, where she attended grade school before graduating from Sioux Rapids High School.

On November 23, 1947, Mary was united in marriage to Donald Edmund Rettig. They were blessed with four children: Alan, Donell, Mark and Donald. Mary was a devoted wife and mother who found joy in every day. She operated her own business for a number of years. She enjoyed crochet and fishing was one of her favorite activities. Her family always came first, however, and she treasured the time she spent with her loved ones.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Alan Rettig of Linn Grove, Iowa; daughter Donell Grow of Sioux Rapids; son Mark (Robyn) Rettig of Niobrara, Nebraska; Donald (Jen) Rettig of Hadar, Nebraska; grandchildren: Shawn (Ronni) Rettig of Spencer, Iowa; Jeremy (Heidi) Grow of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Chris (Jane) Rettig of Ames, Iowa; Joshua (Erin) Grow of Phoenix, Arizona; Jared (Sarah) Grow of Storm Lake, Iowa; Misty (Kevin) Thomas of South Sioux City, Nebraska; Cherish Rettig of Linn Grove, Iowa; MacKenzie Rettig of Niobrara, Nebraska; great-grandchildren: Theron Rettig, Dakota Rettig, Anissa Thomas, Amaia Thomas, Lily Rettig and Autumn Rettig; extended family and many friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald; her brother, Edward; and her grandson, Chad Rettig.
