Marvis Hansen Obituary

Marvis Hansen, age 97, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Monday, February 5, 2024 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. 

Funeral services will take place Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 1:30 p.m. at Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

Marvis Elizabeth (Wessman) Hansen, the daughter of Elmer and Esther (Dahlberg) Wessman, was born in Cokato, Minnesota on April 16, 1926.  She lived her youth near Marathon and received her education at Marathon schools graduating with the Class of 1944. After graduating from high school, she attended the Minnesota Business College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. 

On November 24, 1949, Marvis was united in marriage to Edwin Hansen at the Marathon Evangelical Free Church, and this union was blessed with four children:  David, Jolene, Jane and Michael.  Marvis was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.  She was a homemaker and resided on their farm north of Alta for 50 years.  In 1999, Marvis and Edwin moved to Storm Lake and later moved to Otsego Place in 2011, where they made their home.  In March 2021, she moved to Bayside View where she was presently residing. 

Marvis’ faith was very important to her and she was an active member of Center Grove Evangelical Free Church, rural Alta, while they lived on the farm and later was an active member of Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake.  Marvis was an avid gardener. She always cherished time with her family.

Those who will always love and cherish her memory include; children: David and Barbara Hansen of Storm Lake; Jolene Hansen of Fort Dodge; Jane and Daniel Bjorklund of Fort Dodge; Michael and Jean Hansen of Norwalk; grandchildren: Terrin Bern, Jace (Christian) Hansen, Will (Maggie) Hansen, Sarah Saffold, Mark (Jill) Bjorklund, Kelli Housworth; great-grandchildren: Tilman and Reagan Bern, Emma and Olivia Hansen, Nylah and Melia Saffold, Benjamin, Lily and Brielle Bjorklund; brother Laurel (Kathy) Wessman of Garrison, North Dakota; and other extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers Garner Wessman and Gaylon Wessman and two sisters Virgene (Wessman) Reynolds and Vernette Wessman.
