Marjorie McClatchey Obituary

Marjorie “Marge” McClatchey, age 91, of Linn Grove, Iowa, was called home on Sunday, September 25, 2022 where anyone who knew her knows she was welcomed home with open and loving arms by her heavenly Father to celebrate a life well lived.

Marjorie Mae McClatchey (Swain) was born in Perry, Iowa, on November 6,1930 to Merle and Harold Swain. On July 30, 1950 she married the love of her life, James McClatchey. Together they had a long and joyous marriage (64 years) remaining devoted until his death in 2014. They had three children, Steven, Terry, and Cheryl. Marge spent her life helping Jim farm and raising her children. She dedicated herself to serving others and her community by teaching Sunday School and leading American Legion Junior Auxiliary for many years. Marjorie was a member of Riverside Evangelical Free Church and was actively involved in her church community.

Marjorie was a woman whose life encompassed far more than can ever be written into words. She was an incredible, devoted, and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great- grandmother. When you met Marge, whether for the first time or the 100th she welcomed you with a warm smile and a tight hug. She would frequently bless others with long hugs and kind words. She was well known for her amazing cinnamon rolls, delicious applesauce, crocheted items, and back rubs. She never hesitated to do anything for anyone. She loved spending time with her grandchildren, playing Gin Rummy with her husband (I’m sure the games are back on now that they are rejoined), golfing, power walking well into her 70’s, and   staying busy. Marge was an example to all of us of how to enjoy every last waking moment of your life and love with a heart truly exemplifying Jesus’s love.

Although Marge is no longer here, the memories she left will always be cherished and her love is woven into the fabric of all who knew her, especially her family. Here on Earth she left her children: Steven (Lynn) McClatchey of Linn Grove, Iowa; Terry (Tammy) McClatchey of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Cheryl (Curtis Sands) McClatchey of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren: Casey (Michele) Luedke, Kristin Thompson, Ryan (Tracy) McClatchey, Sean McClatchey, Brandon (Laura) McClatchey, Amanda McClatchey, Travis (Jacely) McClatchey, Kylee McClatchey, Crystal (John) Linder; many great grandchildren; one brother, Carroll Swain; her dear friend Robert Siefer, and many, many other extended family and friends.
