Lucille Lorenzen, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, July 9, 2006 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake following a long battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake with Pastor Duane Olson officiating. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on the family from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening, July 11 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.

Lucille Margaret Herrig was born December 28, 1919 near Wall Lake, Iowa to Claus “Carl” W. and Habena (Kies) Herrig. She was baptized at Peace Lutheran Church in Wall Lake and began her education in the Wall Lake School. Her family moved to a farm north of Storm Lake and Lucille continued her education at the Washington Township School in rural Storm Lake, then later she attended school in Truesdale, Iowa. She was confirmed on April 21, 1941 at Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church in Rembrandt, Iowa.

On August 12, 1939, Lucille was united in marriage to Floyd Franklin Lorenzen at the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Their union was blessed with six children: Richard, Glenda, Gordon, Patricia, Larry and Carol. Following their marriage, Lucille and Floyd farmed in the Rembrandt area until 1953, when they moved to Minnesota. Lucille provided daycare in her home at Mountain Lake, Minnesota. Upon their retirement in 1976, Floyd and Lucille moved to the Linn Grove, Iowa area. Floyd died in 1982. In 1989, Lucille moved to Storm Lake, then on October 22, 1989, Lucille transferred her membership from Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove to St. Mark Lutheran in Storm Lake. Lucille was first diagnosed with cancer in 1997. She made her home in Methodist Manor in 2004.

Lucille was a loving wife and devoted mother whose family always came first in her life. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, cooking and baking. In her later years, she was blessed with grandchildren and she treasured every moment she spent with her precious grand- and great-grandchildren. She will be missed dearly by all those who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish her memory are her son Richard (Edna) Lorenzen of Linn Grove; daughter Glenda Taylor (Dick Huston) of Minneapolis, Minnesota; son Gordon (Karen) Lorenzen of New Ulm, Minnesota; daughter Patricia (Jerry) Carter of Belleville, Illinois; son Larry (Sheri) Lorenzen of Mankato, Minnesota and daughter Carol (Ron) Roiger of Appleton, Minnesota; 17 grandchildren: Terri Taylor, Jean Taylor, Taylor Moor, Jeff Taylor, Cody Lorenzen, Mary Luepke, Doug Carter, James Carter, Meleah Corner, Angie Nielson, Corrie Speck, Kate Lorenzen, Christi Alverson, Eric Lorenzen, Stephanie Schmid, Scott Roiger and Heather Roiger; 20 great-grandchildren: Sven Nielson, Suneva Nielson, Thor Nielson, Melissa Hughes, Andrea Hansen, Emma Griffith, Abby Griffith, Grayson Moor, Jyllian Carter, David Carter, Daniel Carter, Sarah Carter, Katherine Carter, Ethan Corner, Nathaniel Corner, John Corner, Breonna Phillips, Austin Speck, Ethan Speck and Kaden Roiger. Lucille’s 21st great-grandchild will be born in December 2006. Lucille is further survived by two great-great-grandchildren, Piper Bartel and Riley Hansen; two sisters, Marvel (Lester) Anderson and Hazel Marietta; three brothers: Don (Elaine) Herrig, Harold (Jan) Herrig and Russ (Helen) Herrig; sister-in-law Laura Herrig; special friend Clarence Richter; extended family and a host of friends.

Lucille was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Floyd, grandson Mitchell Lorenzen; sisters Irene Moore and Delores Sennert; and one brother, Fred Herrig.
