Lloyd Raymond Jafvert was born to Raymond and Astrid (Werner) Jafvert on September 19th, 1941, at the Spencer, Iowa hospital.
Lloyd had a wonderful childhood in Albert City, Iowa, graduating from Albert City-Truesdale High School in 1959. He studied Pre-Engineering at Gustavus Adolphus College 1959-1961 and received his Bachelor of Architecture from Iowa State University in 1965. Lloyd received his Master of Architecture, Planning at University of Minnesota in 1969. He met his wife, Gay, in 1968 and they married in Grand Forks, ND on Valentine’s Day in 1970. They resided in Golden Valley, MN for over 30 years, where they raised their daughters, Gina and Rachel. Lloyd was President of Jafvert Mueller Architects, Inc., where he combined his architectural and planning backgrounds into a practice which specialized in architectural design and space planning of office, housing, resort and religious facilities. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and was internationally recognized and published as a designer of single and multiple housing structures. Lloyd was an active member of the community, serving on the board of Plymouth Christian Youth Center in North Minneapolis for 25 years and the city of Golden Valley Planning Commission. A series of events led Lloyd and Gay back to his childhood home in Albert City, Iowa in 2010, where they have resided since.
Lloyd led a life devoted to God. He was a wonderful man, devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many. In his mid-years, he designed and remodeled the homes that his family lived in and enjoyed working on them. He loved spending time on the North Shore of Lake Superior with his close friends, Bob and Sue Nelson, and visiting Bluefin Bay, Surfside and Temperance Landing, resorts he designed. He was always interested in the weather and was the “weatherman” to his family. In his later years, he became very interested in bird watching and became quite the animal whisperer.
Everyone knew Lloyd as a “talker”, his stories were very detailed and often led on long tangents before getting back to the original story. The past few years were difficult for Lloyd as he lost his voice and people had a hard time understanding him, leaving him feeling isolated.
Lloyd was preceded in death by parents, Raymond and Astrid. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Gay; daughters: Gina (Ross) Vander Werf of Golden Valley, Minnesota; Rachel Jafvert of Phoenix, Arizona; grandson, Knox Vander Werf; sister, Lorna (Milt) Reed of St. Petersburg, Florida; brother-in-law, Buzz (Linda) Massee of Littleton, Colorado; sister-in-law, Jeannie Finch of Naples, Florida; and many beloved cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends.
Thank you to St. Croix Hospice, who were such a blessing in his final few days.
