Lea Gaes

April 23, 1919 ~ August 24, 2014 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Lea Gaes, age 95, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Sunday, August 24, 2014, at North Lake Manor at Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be Friday, August 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation with the family present will be Thursday, August 28, 2014 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Lea Buchholz, the daughter of Fred and Ida (Hartje) Buchholz was born in Grant Township, Buena Vista County, Iowa, on April 23, 1919. She was baptized on May 11, 1919 and confirmed in April of 1933, at the Zion Lutheran Church of rural Storm Lake. She received her education at the Zion Lutheran School.

On November 17, 1946, Lea was united in marriage to Fred Gaes at the Zion Lutheran Church and to this union four sons were born: Terry, Tom, Craig, and Kirk. Fred and Lea owned and operated Gaes Truck Lines where Lea served as the bookkeeper along with being a full time wife, mother and homemaker. Two special interests of Lea’s included playing cards and golfing. All of Lea’s family held a special significance in her heart and she cherished the times she could spend with her family. She was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church of Storm Lake.

Lea’s life will always be honored and cherished by her family which include her sons: Terry of Storm Lake, Iowa; Tom (Renee) of Louisville, Kentucky; Craig (Geralyn) of Huntington Beach, California; and Kirk (Tamie) of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Shane (Staci) Gaes; Shannon (Dawn) Gaes; Keith (Tanya) Gaes; Troy (Amanda) Gaes; Tim (Nicole) Gaes; Jason Gaes; Melissa (Gaes) Whitley and her fiancée, Jon Pedro; Tara and Michael Whitmire; and Autumn Gaes; great-grandchildren: Ella and Parker Gaes; Taylor and Alysa Gaes; Mackenzie, Brianna, Tyler and Kalie Gaes; Tyler, Nicholas and Melanie Gaes; and Madelyn Whitley; two great-great granddaughters, Aubrey Gaes and Nicole Van Houten; two sisters: Alma Boettcher and Leona Boettcher, both of Storm Lake, Iowa; other extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Fred and Ida; father-in-law and mother-in-law: Fred and Sylvia; husband: Fred; grandson, Adam Gaes; brothers: Walter, Art, and Raymond; sisters, Dora Kruse and Paula Madison; along with many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.
