Larry Hogrefe

Larry Hogrefe, age 74, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died August 30, 2021, at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Graveside Services will be Friday, September 3, 2021, at 3:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. Visitation will be Thursday, September 2, 2021 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

Larry Albert Hogrefe was born March 22, 1947, to Albert and Hilda (Lullmann) Hogrefe in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was baptized as an infant in the Zion Lutheran Church. Later in life, Larry was also confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church.

Larry went on to grade school at Zion. He then continued to high school at Albert City Truesdale and graduated in 1965.

On March 6, 1971, Larry was united in marriage to Annette Gibbons at the Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Larry and Annette were blessed with two children: Kirby and Kari.

He was a part of the United States Army. Larry entered the Army on July 6, 1966. He served in the Vietnam War. He was discharged on April 6, 1968.

Larry was apart of many organizations including: American Legion, Albert City Lions Club, Masons, and Clay County Pork Producer Board. Larry enjoyed going to auctions and flea markets. He loved his kids, grandkids, and great grandkids. Larry enjoyed mowing his yard and painting. In Larry’s free time, he also liked to garden and play solitaire on his tablet. He worked for BJ Pork/Pro Pork Associates for 26 years. In his retirement, he drove school bus and was the maintenance man for Sioux Rapids and Rembrandt apartments.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Annette Hogrefe of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; daughter, Kari (Jim) Swanson of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; brothers: Charlie (Valerie) Hogrefe of Albert City, Iowa; Rich (Barb) Hogrefe of Albert City, Iowa; sister, Marsha (Carl) Boyd of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Bailey (Tanner) Wiederin; Maja White; Kolby Hogrefe; Kelsey Hogrefe; step-grandchildren: Haleigh and Emma Swanson; great-grandchildren: Nora Wiederin; Paxton White; one baby girl Wiederin on the way; brothers-in-law; Don (Kris) Gibbons of Greenfield, Missouri; Jeff (Dee) Gibbons of Arnolds Park, Iowa; sister-in-law, Becky (Dewey) Christensen of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; extended family and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Hilda Hogrefe; parents-in-law, Don and Leona Gibbons; son, Kirby Hogrefe; many aunts and uncles.
