LaVonne (Loving) Hoffman, age 89, of Storm Lake, Iowa died May 27, 2015 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake.

Funeral services will be held Monday, June 1, 2015 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Private burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

LaVonne Charlotte Loving was born January 8, 1926 in Albert City, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Helen (Carlson) Loving.

She grew up on the family farm west of Albert City, graduating from Albert City High School in 1943. She continued her education at Drake University for her freshman year. In 1944, LaVonne moved to Chicago, Illinois to attend school at the Chicago Music Conservatory College, and received her Bachelor of Music Degree in Piano in 1950.

On December 23, 1950, LaVonne was united in marriage to Charles Keith Hoffman in Chicago. Together they were blessed with three children: Diane, Douglas, and Theodore. LaVonne relocated to Iowa in 1970 following a divorce.

Once arriving in Albert City, LaVonne enrolled in classes at Buena Vista College. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Music and graduated in 1973 with Magna Cum Laude Honors.

LaVonne was a dedicated elementary music teacher for the Storm Lake Public Schools for many years. She retired from teaching in 1989, but then took an adjunct instructor position at Buena Vista University until 2006.

Music was a lifelong passion of LaVonne’s. She was a choir director at Albert City Covenant Church from 1970—1973. She was an accomplished pianist, piano teacher, soloist, voice coach, and also performed at many funerals, school functions, and other events in the community. LaVonne also enjoyed traveling overseas with the Buena Vista Choir. LaVonne was an avid reader and student of history, and enjoyed traveling to Sweden, Russia, England, and other coutnries.

LaVonne was currently a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.

Most of all, LaVonne was a dedicated mother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Diane (Paul) Van Drunen of Tyler, Minnesota; Doug (Gretchen) Hoffman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Ted Hoffman of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Hudson Van Drunen of Tyler, Minnesota; Derek Hoffman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Nathan Van Drunen of Tyler, Minnesota; Paige Hoffman of Sioux Falls; brother, Byron (Barbara) Loving of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister, Adelaide Bersbach of College Park, Maryland; sister-in-law, Paulette Loving of Albert City, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends.

LaVonne was preceded in death by her parents; infant brother, Ronald; brother, Lael Loving; and brother-in-law, James Bersbach.
