Joshua Martin

Joshua Martin, age 29, of Sioux City, Iowa, formerly Marathon, Iowa, died Monday, February 20, 2023 in Spencer, Iowa. 

A Celebration of Life will take place Thursday, March 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. in the Laurens Cemetery in Laurens, Iowa with a reception to follow at the Marathon Community Center in Marathon, Iowa. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements. 

Joshua Allen Martin was born February 19, 1994 to Ron Martin Jr. and Krista Beard in Storm Lake, Iowa. Growing up, he attended grade school in Laurens and Early, Iowa. He attended high school in Newell and Sioux Rapids, Iowa. In 2013, Josh received his GED from Northwest Iowa Community College in Sheldon, Iowa.

Josh loved being outside, especially floating on the river or riding his motorcycle. He enjoyed going for drives, working out, or playing his x-box. Josh liked to stay busy, but could stop to enjoy a cold beer every now and then. He loved animals, especially the pets he had throughout his life. He will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him.

Josh is survived by his grandparents, Les and Cindy Boge of Marathon, Iowa; Sandy Herrig of Storm Lake, Iowa; Ronald and Deb Martin Sr. of Welcome, Minnesota; sisters: Kyleigh Sanders; Keirah Anderson; Keianna Picht; Rachel Martin; Brooklyn Martin; step-sister: Nikki Butcher; step-brother: Brady Bender; parents: Ronald Jr. (Bonnie) Martin; Krista Picht; aunt: Diane Winegarden (Noah Edelstein) and their children, Anya and Jonas Edelstein; uncle: Chuck (Heather) Martin and their children, Dylan, Keyton and Lilly.

Josh is preceded in death by his grandfather and step-grandmother: Joe (Pat) Beard; step grandfather: Bill Herrig; cousin: Christina Martin; and aunt: Kathy Schulz.
