Jim McClatchey, age 83, of Linn Grove, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 03, 2014, at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held Friday, September 5, 2014 at 4:00 p.m. at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Linn Grove, Iowa. Interment will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will take place Thursday, September 4, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
James “Jim” Fremont McClatchey, the son of Bert and Violet (Clausen) McClatchey, was born in Jamaica, Iowa, on November 6, 1930. He was the youngest of four children. He grew up on farms around Linden and Minburn, Iowa and graduated from the Washington Township Consolidated School in Minburn. He helped his dad with farming and his Saturday job was selling shoes at Eddy’s Shoe Store in Perry, Iowa.
Jim was united in marriage to Marjorie Swain on July 30, 1950, in Perry, Iowa, and to this union two sons and one daughter were born: Steven, Terry, and Cheryl.
Jim joined the National Guard and his unit was activated in April, 1951. He faithfully served his country until his honorable discharge in December, 1952. Jim moved his family to Linn Grove, Iowa in February, 1953 to farm with his dad.
Jim and Marjorie started vacationing in Sun Lakes, Arizona in 1995. During his retirement years, Jim enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting and playing gin rummy. Jim was a member of the Riverside Evangelical Free Church.
Jim’s life and memory will always be cherished by his family which include his wife, Marjorie of Linn Grove, Iowa; his children: Steven (Lynn) McClatchey of Linn Grove, Iowa; Terry (Tammy) McClatchey of St. Joseph, Missouri, and Cheryl (Curtis Sands) McClatchey of Chattanooga, Tennessee; grandchildren: Casey (Michele) Luedke, Kristen (Aaron) Thompson, Ryan McClatchey, Sean McClatchey, Brandon (Laura) McClatchey, Amanda (Nathan) Burgod, Travis McClatchey, Kylee McClatchey, Crystal (John) Linders; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Doris Gerner of Kansas City, Missouri; other extended family and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mildred; brother, Dean; and two brothers-in-law: Jim Gerner and Jack Essenburg.
