Henry "Sonny" Koster, Jr., age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Monday, January 15, 2018 at his home in Storm Lake. 

Funeral services will be held Friday, January 19, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

Henry “Sonny” Koster, Jr., the son of Henry C. Sr. and Beulah M. (Parker) Koster, was born in Anthon, Iowa on September 11, 1944. Sonny was baptized as an infant at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Anthon and later confirmed at the Grace Lutheran Church at Correctionville, Iowa. He lived his youth and received his education in the Anthon community. Sonny served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from November 2, 1967 until his honorable discharge on November 1, 1973.

In 1970, Sonny was united in marriage to Brenda Nunn and this couple was blessed with two children: Wayne and Michelle. His nephew, Anthony, joined the family at the time of his birth in 1991 and Henry raised him as his own son. Most of Sonny’s lifetime was spent in Storm Lake where he was a fork lift operator at Vilas and Company. In later years, he worked at New Hope Village in Carroll, Iowa, where he cared for people with disabilities.

Sonny was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He enjoyed working in his yard and working on cars. One of his great joys in life was watching and caring for children.

Sonny’s life and memory are honored by his family which include his children: Wayne (Betty) Koster of Storm Lake, Iowa and Michelle (Dustin) Handy of Aurelia, Iowa; and Anthony Allen (fiancée, Jennifer Brouwer) of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Kelia and Blaize Koster; brother, Fred (Rita) Koster of Monroe, Wisconsin; two sisters: Lois Koster of Storm Lake, Iowa and Shirley (Ralph) DeLambert of Eden, Wyoming; brother-in-law, Norman Hammond of Wall Lake, Iowa; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Pat Hammond.
