Henry R. Gorman, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, July 23, 2006 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 27, 2006 at the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon, with Reverend David Schumann of the Marathon United Methodist Church officiating. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, Iowa is in charge of the arrangements. There will be no visitation.

Henry Raymond Gorman was born September 19, 1923 to Bernard Wallace and Lena (Meyer) Gorman in Kenmare, North Dakota. He was baptized in Kenmare and attended school in Kenmare, graduating from high school there. Henry continued his education for the next four years at what was then known as Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, graduating with his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1949.

Henry entered the United States Navy and served during World War II from August 1943 to April 1946. He was honorably discharged on April 14, 1946 at the rank of Fireman First Class USS.

On October 5, 1946, Henry was united in marriage to Ruth Lenore Cooper in Storm Lake. They were blessed with a son, Bernard. Henry was a load dispatcher for the Montana—Dakota Utilities, spending many years in Glendive, Montana before he retired in 1986. Henry enjoyed golf, bowling and singing. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Marathon, Iowa. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family, as well as a good friend to many.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Ruth of Storm Lake; sister Kathryn Bauer of Minnetonka, Minnesota; other extended family and friends.

Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Bernard; sister Marcella Cordes; sister Mary Lou Mahnke; brothers Wallace Gorman, John Gorman and Orlan Gorman.
