Helen Joan Shugar, age 92, of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa died January 15, 2023 at Pioneer Living in Sergeant Bluff.
Funeral services will take place Friday, January 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of New Beginnings, formerly the Faith United Assembly of God Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Helen Joan Shugar was born April 19, 1930 to Carl and Mary (Neumann) Hansen in Storm Lake, Iowa. She went to school in Storm Lake and graduated in 1949 from Storm Lake Senior High.
Helen married Arthur Lee Shugar on February 4, 1952. The couple was blessed with five children: Pamela, Edward, Craig, Jeffrey, and Kevin.
Helen held a variety of jobs including a telephone operator, working for Dr. Fred Faine and the Ben Franklin Variety Store. She was a member of the Church of Christ and later in life the Assembly of God Church. She loved playing board games, her favorite being Parcheesi, doing find a word book and embroidery. She was proud of a quilt she made by hand. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Carl and Mary (Neumann) Hansen; husband: Arthur Shugar; sisters: Doris Nixon and Thelma Borrink; brother: Francis Hansen; brothers-in-law: Rollie Nixon; Lawrence Borrink; Bill Bahrke; sister-in-law: Helen Hansen.
Left to cherish Helen’s memory are her daughter: Pamela (Thomas) Condon of Fort Dodge, Iowa; her four sons: Edward of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Craig of Lantana, Florida; Jeffrey (Kim) of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; Kevin of Lantana, Florida; twelve grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; extended family as well as a host of friends.
