Helen Frances Larson, the daughter of Oscar and Selma (Olson) Larson, was born in rural Albert City, Iowa, on March 26, 1919. She was baptized that spring in the Ljunghed Lutheran Church at Albert City and confirmed there in 1933. She began her education in Albert City in 1925 and graduated from the Albert City High School on May 19, 1937.

In June of 1938, Helen met Clifford Larson at a Luther League Convention in Royal, Iowa. They were married on March 21, 1942, at the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church at Albert City and moved to a farm east of Sioux Rapids. Their marriage was blessed with one son, Morris, on September 7, 1943. The family later moved to the Albert City and Marathon areas and then to Helen’s family farm northeast of Albert City. Clifford died in October of 1968.

Helen remained on the farm and helped Morris and his wife with the farming operation until 1978 when she moved into Albert City. Helen had received a love of flower gardening from her father. She was noted for her flower gardens, both on the farm and in town. She was an avid quilter and made many beautiful quilts for her family and friends. She was known around the community for her babysitting skills. Helen was a faithful member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church throughout her life time and she was also member of the Golden Rule Club for many years. Helen had been employed at Mohr’s Grocery Store until it closed and she then was a waitress at the 3 & 71 Truck Stop. Helen’s last work place was Steve’s Grocery Store in Albert City.

In the spring of 2012, Helen fell and broke her hip and suffered a stroke. She then made her home at the Pleasant View Nursing Home in Albert City where she lived the remainder of her life.

Helen will lovingly be remembered by her family which include her son and his wife: Morris and Carolyn Larson of Albert City; granddaughter, Lori (Randy) Zebedee of Spencer, Iowa; grandson, Mark Larson of Victorville, California; an adopted grandson: Raul Ramirez of California; special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford; parents; Oscar and Selma Larson; and a brother, Morris Eugene, who died in infancy.
