Obituary

Hardie J. Ball Jr. “Butch”, age 78, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died November 13, 2022 at his residence.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids, Iowa.  Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery, rural Webb, Iowa.  A visitation will be held Friday, November 18, 2022 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids.  The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the Ball family will be donating funds to St. Croix Hospice at 1015 S Grand Ave. Spencer, Iowa 51301 and the Clay County 4-H Endowment at 110 West 4th St. Suite 100 Spencer, Iowa 51301.

Hardie J. Ball Jr., nicknamed “Butch”, was born January 30, 1944 to Hardie Jefferson Ball Sr. and Forest Audrey (Mitchel) Ball in Webb, Iowa. He attended school in Webb and graduated in 1962.

On June 12, 1966, Butch married the love of his life, Gloria Genevieve Burger in Webb. The couple was blessed with four children: Anthony Roy, Salena Kay, Justin Hardie, and Darcy Lynn.

Butch was passionate about agriculture and serving his community. He worked as a farm hand for Wayne and Jane Hanson over 19 years and then worked for 27 years at First Cooperative Elevator prior to retirement. All the while volunteering for 50 plus years at the Clay County 4-H Hall of Fame inductee in 2015. He was truly the happiest spending time with his grand children and was very proud of each of them. In his free time, Butch loved trail riding on horseback, chuckwagon races, hunting, mowing, and playing cards.

Butch is survived by his wife, Gloria G. Ball of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; children: Salena Kay Ball (Kent Barnes) of Hillsboro, Wisconsin; Justin Hardie (Teresa) Ball of Greenville, Iowa; Darcy Lynn (Dan) Brugman of Peterson, Iowa; brother: Calvert (Emmy Lou) Ball of Hubbard, Iowa; sisters: Barbara Dyhrkopp of Sioux City, Iowa; Sibyl Ball (Gary Tielbur) of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Mary Lyne (Larry “Buck”) Mills of Spencer, Iowa; Karleen (Bill) Koenig of Ayrshire, Iowa; Marleen (Dennis) Norgaard of Dickens, Iowa; grandchildren: Treah (Elizabeth) Kragt of Richland Center, Wisconsin; Kaleb (Alexis) Kragt of Wonewoc, Wisconsin; Jessica (Austin) Bahr of Brown Deer, Wisconsin; Dillon (Nichole) White of Spencer, Iowa; Hunter White of Spencer, Iowa; Riley White of Spencer, Iowa; Gensley and Roysen Ball of Greenville, Iowa; Dayton Brugman of Royal, Iowa; Davin Brugman of Peterson, Iowa; Dalayna Brugman of Peterson, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Owen White; Calvin White; Ledger Brugman; Rookie Kragt; Hunter Kragt; mother-in-law: Genevieve Burger; siblings-in-law: Carl (Jody) Burger; Gary Burger; Harley Burger; Judith Bevers; extended family and many friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents: Hardie and Forest Ball; son: Anthony Ball; sister: Joan Ball; father-in-law: Roy Burger; and siblings in law: Dennis and Victoria Weisbrod; Brian Burger; Dorothy Burger; Lanny Bevers.

 He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
