Gladys V. Swaim, age 95, of Aurelia, Iowa, formerly of Webb, Iowa, died August 28, 2022 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Graveside services will take place Friday, September 9, 2022 at 1:30 p.m. in the Garfield Township Cemetery in Webb, Iowa. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Sioux Rapids is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Humane Society of Northwest Iowa in Milford, Iowa or People For Pets in Spencer, Iowa.
Gladys Velma Swaim was born June 18, 1927 on her parents’ farm near Callaway in Custer County, Nebraska to Leslie and Clara Dickerson. She attended school and went on to receive her teaching degree from Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. She taught for one year in Marcus and then one year in Webb. She then substituted for several years. Gladys was strong in her Baptist faith. She served as a bible schoolteacher for many years, helping to shape the lives of numerous children.
Gladys married the love of her life, Paul Swaim. Together, they lived in Paul’s family home in Webb, Iowa.
Gladys grew up on her family farm, where there was an abundance of love and music. One of her favorite memories was standing around the piano and singing with her parents and siblings. She was an animal lover. Gladys had many dogs throughout her life and especially love Princess, her cat. In her free time, you could find Gladys putting together puzzles. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Gladys is survived by Denny and Linda Adams. Denny was like a son to Gladys and is honored to carry on her legacy in the family home.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul Swaim in 2007; parents: Leslie and Clara Dickerson; sisters: Violet Arnold; Marie Oman; Lucille Dickerson (passed as a young child); and brother: Arthur Dickerson.
