Garnet Vierow

Garnet Rose Vierow, age 85, of Albert City, Iowa died December 11, 2020 at the Pocahontas Community Hospital in Pocahontas, Iowa. 

Private family services will take place Tuesday, December 15, 2020 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Vickie Erickson, 2047 470th Street, Marathon, Iowa 50565. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements. 

Garnet Rose Lane was born March 10, 1935 in Webb, Iowa the daughter of John William and Mary Pearl (Rose) Lane. 
  
Growing up, Garnet attended school in Webb and graduated high school from Marathon in 1952. 
   
On April 3, 1954, Garnet was united in marriage to Robert LeRoy Vierow in Jackson, Minnesota. Together, they were blessed with three daughters: Brenda Lee, Vickie May, and Kelley Rose. 
   
On January 25, 1981, Garnet was baptized at the Methodist Church in Marathon where she remained a lifelong member. She was also a member of the Golden Rule Quilt Club in Albert City, Iowa. 
   
Garnet worked many years as the head cook at Laurens Marathon Community School. She loved her job and especially enjoyed serving children their lunches. 
   
Garnet enjoyed quilting and made special quilts for each of her children and grandchildren. In her spare time, she loved playing cards with friends at Countryside Living. She loved watching Iowa Hawkeye sporting events. Family was very important to Garnet and she especially enjoyed going to her grandchildren’s activities. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. 
   
Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Brenda (Tim) Hawley of Laurens, Iowa; Vickie (Chuck) Erickson of Marathon, Iowa; Kelley Archer (Mike Dornsbach) of Marathon, Iowa; grandchildren: Kari (Adrian) Christensen; Tracy (Hector) DeLao; Adrian (Sara) Erickson; Abbey (Brad) Greene; Cody Archer and Tanner Archer; great grandchildren: Sara Christensen; Sophie Christensen; Ajay, Mollie, and Brody Erickson; Arabella and Gabriela DeLao; Greyson Archer; and many nieces and nephews that filled her life with joy. 
   
Garnet was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mary Lane; husband, Robert Vierow; brother, Burdette (Martha) Lane; sisters: Helen (Byron) Brinkley; Velda (Earl) Wolff; Erma (Hugh) Westercamp; and Gwen (Gale) Howe.
