Fredrick Ehlers Obituary

Fredrick Paul Ehlers, age 72, of Albert City, Iowa died Sunday, March 15, 2026 at his home after a short battle with cancer.

Memorial services will take place Saturday, March 21, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, March 20, 2026 from 4-7:00 p.m. at the CHURCH.  The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Fredrick was born on June 22, 1953, in Albert City, Iowa, the son of Gordon and Margie (Zadow) Ehlers. Fred was baptized on July 5, 1953 and confirmed March 19, 1967 all at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake.

Growing up, Fred attended kindergarten and grades 1–8 at Zion Lutheran School before graduating from Albert City High School in 1971.

Fred began his working career with Harold Carlson Construction in Storm Lake and later worked for T.E. Iberson building grain elevators. In 1975, he started working at ALCECO as a millwright, where he dedicated many years before retiring in 2018.

Fred fathered two sons, Luke and Clayton. On March 5, 2005, Fred was united in marriage to Sue Driver. Fred and Sue recently celebrated 21 wonderful years of marriage together.

Fred enjoyed many trips riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He also loved hunting and fishing with Sue and their grandchildren. They made many memorable trips to Dorchester for trout fishing. Fred spent countless hours hunting deer at the family farm and in and around the Kindlespire Recreation Area. He also took great pride in tending his garden and growing vegetables.

Fred especially loved supporting his grandchildren and could often be found in the crowd cheering them on at their sporting events. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memories are his wife, Sue Ehlers of Albert City, Iowa; son, Luke and his wife, Christy of Albert City, Iowa; son, Clayton and his wife, Mary Stewart of Tyler, Texas; grandchildren: Brady and Trevor Ehlers; sister, Doris Erickson of Albert City, Iowa; stepchildren: Eric Driver and his wife, Christy, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Erica Delira and her husband, Jamie, of Rio Linda, California; Shawn and Summer Sigmon of Arizona and Justin and Steph Sigmon of Marathon, Iowa;  step grandchildren: Landon Driver, Natalie, Brianna, and Zachary Delira; extended family and friends. 

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Margie Ehlers; brother, Harlan Ehlers; and infant sister, Ruth Ehlers.
