Floyd Dandy, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa passed away Wednesday, June 7, at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, June 10, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Reverend Mark Abraham will officiate. Burial with full military rites will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Friday, June 9, 2006 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 – 8:00.

Floyd Anthony Dandy was born May 7, 1918 in Schaller, Iowa to William Frisby Dandy and Lydia Ann (Brown) Dandy. He was baptized and confirmed into the Christian faith. His family moved to Sioux Rapids in 1930. Floyd graduated from Sioux Rapids High School in 1937, then attended diesel mechanic school in Ames, Iowa.

In November of 1941, Floyd enlisted in the United States Navy and served as Motor Machinist Mate 1C during World War II until November of 1945, when he was honorably discharged.

On June 1, 1946, Floyd was united in marriage to Bernice (Bea) Louise (Richardson) Mohler. They resided in Sioux Rapids until May of 1966, when they moved to Storm Lake to be closer to Floyd’s work at Hy-Grade, where he worked until his retirement.

Floyd was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake where he was actively involved until illness prevented it. Floyd followed the lives of his children and grandchildren and took great pride in them.

Floyd will long be remembered as a man of great faith, a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a kind and gentle man always with a smile. He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Bea, and six brothers: William (Bill) Dandy, Edgar Dandy, Morris Dandy, Aubrey Dandy, George Dandy and Wilbur Dandy.

Floyd is survived by a daughter, Cynthia (Richard) Anderson of Sioux Rapids; a son, Rusty (Diane) Mohler of Storm Lake; three grandchildren: Lorie (Doug DeStigter of Sioux City, Iowa, Jason Leidahl of Sioux Rapids, Callie (Craig) Sullivan of Dassel, Minnesota; four great-grandchildren: Naomi and Dana DeStigter, Tanner Terning and Camryn Sullivan; two sisters: Mary Christensen of New Braunfels, Texas and Edna Aamodt of Prescott, Wisconsin; one brother, Lincoln (Gloria) Dandy of Sioux Rapids; and many other relatives and friends.

A memorial has been established in Floyd’s name to benefit Concordia Lutheran School in Storm Lake.
