Emma Exner

Emma Exner, age 83, of Peterson, Iowa died February 2, 2024 at Accura Healthcare in Aurelia, Iowa. 

Memorial services will take place Tuesday, February 13, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church in Peterson, Iowa. Burial will be in the Oakland Cemetery in Peterson. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. 

Emma Alice (Deman) Exner was born January 31, 1941 in Walthill, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and M. Alice (Fuller) Deman. She spent her childhood in Walthill and Paullina, Iowa before moving to Peterson, Iowa and attending Peterson High School.

Emma was united in marriage to Dale Roberts in July of 1958. The couple was blessed with four children: Timothy, Anthony, Troy, and Tracy. Emma married Fred Exner in May of 1983 in Peterson, Iowa.

While her children were young, Emma was active in the Peterson PeeWee Mothers and was the Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She was a long-time member of the United Methodist Church in Peterson and was also a member of the Peterson Women’s Card Club and Tuesday Night Supper Club. In recent years, she enjoyed crocheting, watching figure-8 racing, working on word-search puzzles and having coffee at AmPride with her friends. More than anything, Emma treasured time spent with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.  She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Left to cherish Emma’s memory include her children: Tim Roberts, Tony Roberts, Troy "Beaner" (Roxanne) Roberts, Tracy (Randy) Schultz; sister: Frances Popp; grandchildren: Courtney (Ryan) Long; Kelsey (Kevin) Roer; Ashley (Joey) Kelley; Jacob Roberts; Elaine Johnson; Shannon Burton; Dalton Roberts; Joseph (Samantha) Lowman; Beka (Braden) Holtorf; Brandon Roberts; Alix (Nick) Ghiai; Tylyn (Brittany) Roberts; Dallys Roberts; step-grandchildren: Victor Cobra; Sicily Roberts; Austin Roberts; great grandchildren: Jaxton, Jacen, Juliet, CJ, Blake, Syus, Nixon, Zayden, Saige, Stetson, Gionni, Evelyn, Gracelynn, Skyla, Harvey; extended family and friends.

 Emma was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Alice Deman; husband: Fred Exner in 2007; brother: Franklin H. Deman; and brother-in-law: Duane Popp.
