Emery Haake, age 90, of Aurelia, Iowa and formerly of Galva, Iowa, died Monday, June 26, 2006 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Galva, with Reverend Paul Egger officiating. Inurnment will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery near Galva. Arrangements are under the direction of the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake.
Friends may call at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake on Friday, June 30, 2006 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., where the family will be present.
Emery Harriss Haake was born October 10, 1915 in Daykin, Nebraska to Henry H. and Elenora Emma (Doehring) Haake. Emery was baptized into the Lutheran faith as an infant at Emanual Lutheran Church in Daykin. He was confirmed as a youth in 1928 at the same church. As a child, Emery lived with his parents near Helvey, Nebraska, where he attended elementary school before graduating from Fairbury, Nebraska High School in 1934. He was a normal training teacher for two years following high school.
On October 13, 1940, Emery was united in marriage to Leona Boettcher. The couple was blessed with four children: Elenore, Leslie, Sharon and Jolyn. After 30 years of marriage, Leona passed away on October 23, 1970. On January 30, 1975, Emery married Arlene Anderson at Lakeside Presbyterian Church in Storm Lake. Arlene died March 14, 2005.
Emery was a farmer for most of his life until his retirement in 1985. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who treasured the time he spent with his family. His gentle presence and caring ways will be missed daily by his family.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Elenore (Richard) Lund of Bellvue, Colorado, Leslie (Sharon) Haake of Galva, Iowa, Sharon (Dwain) Bloyer of Fort Collins, Colorado, and Jolyn (Tim) Renshaw of Mason City, Iowa; grandchildren: Perry (Julie) Lund, Daryn (Laura) Lund, Brice (Doreen) Lund, Jeff (Meg) Bloyer, Robin (Tomasz) Gawronski, Matt (Rhonda) Renshaw, Sara Renshaw, Andrew Haake and Douglas Haake; great-grandchildren: Erik, Taylor, Scott, Megan, Emily, Amanda, Jack, April, Emily, Elle, Ania, Zoe and Leila; brother Lawrence (Bessie) Haake of Hastings, Nebraska; extended family and a host of friends.
Preceding Emery in death were his parents, Henry and Elenora Haake; his first wife, Leona; his second wife, Arlene; brothers Leon Haake and Andrew Haake; and sisters Edna Schultz and Gladys Haake.
