Elwin White Obituary

Elwin Lee White, age 79, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died July 11, 2020 at his home in Sioux Rapids. 

Funeral services will take place Monday, July 20, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. and run until service time at the funeral home. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. 

Elwin Lee White, the son of Elwin and Marjorie (Duvall) White, was born on June 7, 1941 in Cherokee, Iowa.

Growing up, Elwin attended grade school and high school in Cherokee. He graduated from Cherokee High School in 1959.

On December 24, 1959, Elwin was united in marriage to Jane VonBank in Rolfe, Iowa.  The couple was blessed with three children: Johnny, Robert, and Chris. Jane passed in 1992. 

Elwin enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country in October of 1959. During his time of service, he served in Vietnam and was honorably discharged in September of 1972. He was then a part of the Reserves from 1972 until 1984.

On August 21, 1993, Elwin was united in marriage to Charlotte (Littleton) Steele in Algona, Iowa. Monica, Michael, and Lori joined the family then. 

Elwin worked as a trucker and Charlotte travelled with him for over 11 years. Together, they made many memories over the road.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Charlotte of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; children: Robert (Christine) White of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Chris White of Austin, Texas; Monica White of Cumming, Georgia; Michael (Ginger) Steele of Columbus, Georgia; Lori (Spencer) Sampson of Columbus, Georgia; brothers, Richard White of Sioux Rapids, Iowa and Kim White of Marana, Arizona; sister, Jolene Phelps of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; extended family and friends. 

Elwin was preceded in death by his parents; son, Johnny White; brothers, LaVerne and Robert White; brother-in-law, Frank Phelps; and his first wife, Jane (VonBank) White.
