Elenora T. Coons, age 90, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa died July 5, 2014 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral Mass will take place Wednesday, July 9, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place Tuesday, July 8, 2014 from 4-7:00 p.m. with a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements.
Elenora T. Lackman, the daughter of John and Anna (Loethen) Lackman was born November 14, 1923 in Meta, Missouri. She moved to the Ida Grove area as a small child where she attended country school. The family later moved to the Albert City and Varina areas.
During World War II, Elenora worked at the Superior manufacturing company making munitions. Elenora married Herbert Stuckenschneider on January 30, 1946 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina during a snowstorm. To this union three children were born: Gary, Joan, and Greg. They farmed together for many years in the Marathon and Newell area. They moved to Storm Lake in the early 60’s where Elenora went to work for Paulson laundry where she worked until her retirement. After Herbs death in 1970, she married Leo Coons and with this union two step children joined the family, Larry and Marilyn.
Elenora will always be remembered for never knowing a stranger. She had the ability to strike up a conversation with anyone and usually found out that they had someone or something in common. She was an avid card player and spent many years playing cards with her husband, brothers, and sisters and later with friends. She enjoyed cooking and especially making treats for family and friends. Her brownies being the best ever.
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Elenora served as an example of life well lived. Her values through her marriage, her loving kindness to her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends will always be remembered. She simply lived life to the fullest and will be remembered as a generous and kind hearted person.
Elenora is survived by her children: Gary (Colleen) Stuckenschneider; Joan (Rich) Spooner; and Greg (Lisa) Stuckenschneider all of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; step children: Larry Coons of Gulf Shores, Alabama; and Marilyn Harvey of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Tammy (Doyle) McKeever; Julie (Rob) Helbing; Adam (Dawn) Spooner; Cory (Brandi) Spooner; Jodi (Fred) Theisen; Chad (Theresa) Stuckenschneider; Hayley Stuckenschneider; Amber Konradi; step grandchildren: Steve (Linda) Harvey and Sheila (Andy) Marron; 25 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild; sister-in-law, Shirley Lackman; nieces; nephews; extended family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; brothers: Bernard Lackman; John Jr. Lackman; sister, Anna Johnson; brother-in-law, Norman Johnson; sister-in-law, Esther Lackman; grandson, Joshua Spooner; and great grandson, Kolby McKeever.
