Eldon Erlandson, age 94, of Albert City, Iowa died Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at Spencer Municipal Hospital in Spencer.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 18, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Albert City. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in Albert City. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.
Eldon LeRoy Erlandson, the son of Nels and Selma (Peterson) Erlandson, was born in Albert City, Iowa, on December 12, 1921. He lived his youth in the Albert City vicinity and received his education at the Albert City Schools, graduating with the class of 1940.
Eldon joined the United States Army on December 7, 1944. He served in the South Pacific during WWII and was honorably discharged on July 21, 1946.
On June 17, 1947, Eldon was united in marriage to Maxine Johnson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City and this union was blessed with four children: Dennis, Don, Janet, and Jay.
Following their marriage, they lived in the town of Albert City from 1947 — 1951. Eldon resided on the farm from 1951 — 2014. His lifelong passion was farming. He loved the land and working in all aspects of farming.
Eldon moved to the Assisted Living in Albert City in 2014, and this last year he has been a resident of Pleasant View Home.
Eldon was an active member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City where he had served on various boards within the church. He was also a proud and dedicated 69- year member of the Albert City American Legion. For over 40 years, you could find Eldon at the Broom Factory during the Threshermen’s Celebration. He had also served his community as a school board member for several years. Eldon was an avid sports fan and enjoyed attending all types of sporting events throughout the area.
Eldon’s life is honored and celebrated by his family which include his children: Dennis (Paulette) Erlandson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Don (Barbara) Erlandson of Spirit Lake, Iowa; Janet (Mark) Harvey of Owatonna, Minnesota; Jay (Lu) Erlandson of New Ulm, Minnesota; beloved grandchildren: Keith (Nancy) Erlandson, Judy (Nate) Jones, Marisa Erlandson and Luke Zweifel, Kayla (Rob) Cunningham, Jesse Harvey, Josie (Geoff) Meyer, Luke (Whitney) Harvey, Nichole (Kasey) Krager, Kali (Gabe) Afolayan, Alicia Erlandson and Cory Turner; 14 great grandchildren; sister, Eldora Schultze of Marathon, Iowa; and his many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Maxine; and great grandson, Silas Meyer.
