Edwin Hansen, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta, Iowa. Visitation will take place Friday, September 26, 2014 from 5-7:00 p.m. with the family present at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.
Edwin Albert Hansen, the son of Albert and Amy (Van Cleve) Hansen, was born in Alta, Iowa, on February 1, 1923. He lived his youth near Alta and received his education at the Highview School, graduating with the Class of 1940. Ed faithfully served his country in the United States Army from January 20, 1943, until his honorable discharge on February 11, 1946.
On November 24, 1949, Ed was united in marriage to Marvis Wessman at the Marathon Evangelical Free Church, and this union was blessed with four children: David, Jolene, Jane, and Michael. Ed was dedicated to his farming vocation and they resided on their farm north of Alta for 50 years. In 1999, Ed and Marvis moved to Storm Lake and later moved to Otsego Place in 2011, where they have made their home.
Ed’s faith was very important to him, and he was an active member of the Center Grove Evangelical Free Church while they lived on the farm, and later, was an active member of the Hope Evangelical Free Church in Storm Lake. Special interests of Ed’s included painting, woodworking and fishing. He and Marvis also enjoyed traveling and making trips to California and his trip to the Holy Land. Ed always cherished the times his family could get together.
Those who will always love and cherish his memory include his wife of 64 years, Marvis, of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: David and Barbara Hansen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Jolene Hansen of Rexford, Kansas; Jane and Dan Bjorklund of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Michael and Jean Hansen of Norwalk, Iowa; grandchildren: Terrin (Dan) Bern, Jace (Christian) Hansen, Will Hansen, Sarah Saffold, Mark (Jill) Bjorklund, Kelli (Ben) Housworth, Tracy (Chad) Jones, and Sarah Cross, great grandchildren: Emma and Olivia Hansen, Tilman and Reagan Bern, Nylah and Melia Saffold, Benjamin Bjorklund, and Elise Jones; sister, Cleora Parris of Story City, Iowa; other extended family and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lowell Hansen.
