Edwin G. Franzmeier, age 82, of Albert City, Iowa, died Tuesday, October 10, 2006, at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Services for Mr. Franzmeier will be held on Friday, October 13, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake, with Reverend Stephen Kieser officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery in rural Storm Lake. The Sliefert Funeral Home of Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 12, 2006 at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City.

Edwin George Franzmeier, son of Rudolf and Bertha (Hoberman) Franzmeier, was born in rural Albert City, Iowa on June 5, 1924. He was baptized into the Lutheran Faith in June 1924 and was later confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake in May 1939. He also received his education at the Zion Lutheran School.

On April 13, 1952, Edwin was married to Lorna Marian Winterhof at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. Their union was blessed with three children: Diane, Carol and James. He enjoyed life as a farmer, living and raising his family in the country. After Lorna’s death in 2002, Edwin was united in marriage to Karen Hauge on November 1, 2003 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Albert City. They made their home in Albert City.

Edwin was a lifetime member of the Zion Lutheran Church. He held several offices, such as, Trustee and Elder and sang with the church choir for many years. He was also a member of the Albert City Lions Club. Edwin enjoyed spending time outdoors. Even after retirement, he would continue to assist with the farming activities. He also took pleasure in fishing, working in the yard, wood working and playing cards. Edwin was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who treasured the time he spent with his family. His gentle presence and caring ways will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife: Karen Franzmeier of Albert City; children: Diane Oppliger of Columbus, Nebraska, Carol (Ron) Buske of Albert City, James (Leslie) Franzmeier of Newell, Iowa; grandchildren: Chad (Kim) Buske of Marion, Iowa, Dan Buske of West Des Moines, Iowa, Callie Buske of Albert City, Will and Ellie Franzmeier both of Newell; great-grandchild: Abby Buske; brother: Otto Franzmeier of Albert City; sister: Hattie Sump of Storm Lake; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.

Edwin was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lorna in 2002; brothers, Ewald and Eldon; sister, Anna; and two infant siblings, Wilbert and Anita.
