Douglas Laumbach

Douglas Laumbach, age 71, of Larrabee, Iowa died January 29, 2026 in South Dakota. 

Memorial services will take place Monday, February 2, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home in SIOUX RAPIDS. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Sioux Rapids is in charge of the arrangements. 

Doug was born on December 25, 1954, to Dale and Dorothy (Brownlee) Laumbach. He attended school in Mapleton, Iowa, before enlisting in the United States Army. While serving, Doug earned his GED and proudly served his country. Last June, he had the opportunity to participate in the Honor Flight, an experience he greatly enjoyed.

Doug was united in marriage to Marcia Ernst in Monett, Missouri on November 10, 1976, and together they were blessed with two children, Christopher and Charissa. Following Marcia’s passing, Doug later married Carolyn Erickson on December 24, 2019.

Doug loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing for walleye or any other fish that would bite. He worked for many years as a repairman and was known for his ability to fix just about anything. One of his favorite pastimes was working on cars—buying them cheaply, restoring or repairing them, and selling them for a profit. Doug had a natural talent for tinkering and enjoyed working on all kinds of projects, including building his own rocket stove and replacing flooring in his current house. Doug loved to garden and then cook up his bounty for supper. His most recent interest was 3D printing. Together, Doug and Carolyn enjoyed traveling until his health declined.

Family was very important to Doug, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Carolyn Erickson of Larrabee, Iowa; children: Christopher Laumbach of Holstein, Iowa; Charissa Howland of Mapleton, Iowa; grandchildren: Easton, Carlie and Maycie Howland; Elissa Laumbach; brother: David (Betty) Laumbach of South Sioux City, Nebraska; sister: Debi (Chris) Tyler of Blair, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Linda (Herman) Tekuelve; brother-in-law, Larry (Theresa) Erickson; other nieces, nephews, extended family and many friends.

Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Dorothy Laumbach; wife, Marcia Laumbach; and sister, Dianna Hanna.
