Dennis Henning Olson, the son of Oscar and Phoebe (Carlson) Olson, was born on March 31, 1940 in Storm Lake, Iowa.
Growing up, Dennis attended grade school and high school. He was a graduate of Albert City High School in 1958.
In 1961, Dennis enlisted in the Iowa National Guard. He served his state and country until 1969.
On May 5, 1962, Dennis was united in marriage to Phyllis Fees in Polk City, Iowa. The couple was blessed with five children: Denise, Scott, Brian, Kevin, and Leann.
Dennis was an active member of the American Legion Post 299 and the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City.
While Dennis had a love for football, having played varsity three years in high school and served as captain for two years, he chose to forgo a full scholarship to Wartburg College. He instead chose to move to the family farm, where he would live the rest of his life and pursue his love of farming. After many years of Farming, he sold his heard of dairy cattle in 1985 and transitioned to professional truck driving which he would continue until he retired in 2015. During the last 20 years of that time he worked as an owner operator leasing on to Olson Express which was owned and operated by his son Scott Olson.
Dennis loved his community and supported it with every opportunity he could. Dennis took great pride in his heritage, as both a Swede and an American. Every year he anxiously awaited the Albert City Threshermen and Collectors Show and never missed a show. Even in his retirement, not only did he attend and display at the show, but he maintained the grounds as a part-time job.
The only thing more important to Dennis, than his heritage was his family, which was evident to anyone who knew Dennis. These two things, heritage and family, found their culmination in his faith. Dennis knew Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and made sure that his children had the opportunity to know Him as well. While a man of few words, Dennis lived his life according to Matthew 5:16, “let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in Heaven.”
