David Waterman Obituary

David W. Waterman, age 75, of Alta, Iowa died Wednesday, January 20, 2021 at his home in rural Alta. 

Funeral services will take place Saturday, January 23, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. at First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids, Iowa where masks will be required. Military services will follow the funeral service at the church. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake at a later date. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the CHURCH. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. 

David Walter Waterman was born September 15, 1945 in Plainview, Nebraska the son of Walter and Doris (Fitchett) Waterman. As an infant, he was baptized at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell, Iowa and later in 1959, David was confirmed at the same church in Newell.

In 1964, David graduated from Alta High School in Alta, Iowa.

David was blessed with three sons: Shane, Terry, and Jason.

On November 27, 1999, David was united in marriage to Julie Saathoff at the First Lutheran Church in Sioux Rapids.

He was a member of the Fire Department in Alta for many years along with the Lions Club.

In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors fishing and camping. He loved horses and tinkering out in the shop. Family was important to David and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Julie Waterman of Alta, Iowa; children: Shane Waterman; Terry (Sheryl) Waterman; Jason Waterman; Greg (Karen) Schoon; grandchildren: Devin (Denice) Hill, Bryce Waterman, Ethan Waterman, Wanda Nashland, Whitney Waterman, Tyson Waterman, Hunter Waterman, Aspin Waterman, Jared Spence, Justina Waterman, Whitney Hunter, Kayla Schoon, Allyssa Knudtson, Alex Knudtson; great grandchildren: Nikki Stewart, Jaellynn Waterman, Osborne Waterman and Kamryn Jackson; sister, Ruth Stroup; numerous extended family and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Doris Waterman; brother-in-law, Dick Stroup; numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
