David H. Unger, age 40, of Albert City, Iowa died Sunday, May 3, 2015 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 7, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Free Church in Albert City. Burial will be in the Fairfield Township Cemetery. Visitation will take place Wednesday, May 6, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City. The Sliefert Funeral Home in Albert City is in charge of the arrangements.

David Henrichs Unger, the son of Jacob and Helena (Henrichs) Unger, was born in Chihuahua, Mexico on November 18, 1974. He lived his youth in Texas and later moved to Albert City in 1990. He completed his education at the Albert City-Truesdale Community School.

David was united in marriage to Kris Flovick in Grand Forks, North Dakota. Together, they were blessed with three daughters: Mercedes, Selena, and Vanessa. The couple later divorced in 2010. David had been employed in the construction business throughout his lifetime. Most recently he was employed by Cooks Siding and Remodeling from Lake View, Iowa.

David was baptized in 2000 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. While residing in Albert City, he has been affiliated with the Albert City Evangelical Free Church and the Real Life Community Church in Storm Lake. David was a member of the Albert City Fire Department. Some of his favorite pastimes were snowmobiling, working with pigs, grilling, and spending time with his family. Hobbies of David’s included raising rabbits and counting pennies with his daughters.

David was loved very much by his family which included his three daughters: Mercedes, Selena, and Vanessa Unger of Spencer, Iowa; his father, Jacob Unger of Seminole, Texas; siblings: Elizabeth (Henry) Kallasen of Alberta, Canada; Sara (Isaak) Krahn of Winkler, Manitoba; Jacob (Lisa) Unger of Manitoba, Canada; Peter (Tina) Unger of Seminole, Texas; Helena (Frank) Wolfe of Morden, Manitoba; Gierhord (Tina) Unger of Elkhart, Kansas; Aganeta Wiebe of Seminole, Texas; Susan (John) Peters of Storm Lake, Iowa; John (Helena) Unger of Seminole, Texas; Tina (Cornileus) Peters of Audubon, Iowa; Abram (Tina) Unger of Corpus Christi, Texas; Wilhelm Unger of Lemington, Ontario; Isak(Susie) Unger of Marathon, Iowa; and Henrich Unger of Albert City, Iowa; brother-in-law, Henry Neufueld; nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother; his brothers: Isaak and Jacob; his sisters: Sara and Anna; brother-in-law, Bill Wiebe; sister-in-law, Nancy Unger; along with his maternal grandparents, Peter and Elizabeth Henrichs and his paternal grandparents, Jacob and Sara Unger.
